3.19.2020 Updates from Kroc School Academic Programs

Dear Kroc School Students,

I’m writing with some important updates.

Financial Hardship Support

If you are facing extreme financial hardship in the immediate term, we may be able to provide some relief. Create a budget that documents your financial needs, along with a short statement explaining your situation, and send it to me and Marissa.

Pro-rated Reimbursement of Certain Fees

We have received some questions about parking and other fee refunds. The university sent an email to all students on March 17 at 5:00pm which stated, “The university intends to prorate room and board charges, parking permits and the Student Life Pavilion Fee using March 13, 2020 as a point-in-time for the calculation.” The COVID-19 site’s Student FAQ also notes this on point 11 and 12.

Individual Outreach

This week, Marissa and I reached out individually to all of you. If you have not yet responded to us, please do so as we’re tracking everyone’s status and needs in order to organize supportive services.

International Students

Please keep Marissa and I apprised of your housing situation and location as much as possible. If you write to your faculty advisors for support, be sure to copy us.

Reaching Academic Programs Remotely

As a reminder, the Academic Programs team is working remotely but fully available. You can call us at our regular office lines, as the calls are forwarded to us at home. If you can’t immediately reach us, email us and we’ll get back to you ASAP. We can respond over the phone, email or zoom.

Kroc Resources Website: Tips & Updates

Louise has created a Wellness & Fitness Resources tab and an Online Learning Tips tab on the Kroc Student Resource site. Please check these out for resources to help with online learning and wellness during this unprecedented time. Monitor this site regularly for updates.

Accessing Library Services

Librarians are holding virtual office hours via chat or telephone (librarians’ office numbers have been forwarded to their cell phones). Remember, you can always get started on your research with the Peace Studies libguide. The library has also prepared a libguide regarding Remote Access due to Covid-19 (the guide is constantly updated):  https://libguides.sandiego.edu/remote_library_access

Career Development

The USD Career Development office remains available to you. They have moved events online. You can schedule advising appointments with counselors through handshake. In addition, reach out to Marissa for individual advising for internships, job searches, CV and cover letter reviews, and other regular career development support at the Kroc School.

That’s all for now. Please stay in touch and take good care of yourselves.

With best wishes,
Emily Keehn
Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs
