Kroc School Graduate Assistantship Program

Who is eligible to apply for a Kroc School Graduate Assistantship (GA)?
Applicants who are newly admitted or are currently enrolled students in a Kroc School in-person or hybrid graduate program (MA in Peace and Justice, MA in Social Innovation, and MS in Conflict Management & Resolution). To apply, the applicant must be in good academic standing.

How much financial support do I receive as a Graduate Assistant?
Students who are selected for a Kroc School GA position will receive $1,296.00 in funding, which will be applied toward tuition costs during the semester in which they have been selected. Assistantship awards do not cover student fees, books or other expenses.

What hours are Graduate Assistants expected to collaborate?
It is expected that students collaborate for 40 hours per semester. Please note actual hours will vary by position and are typically between 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Students may not work more than 25 hours per week.

What are Graduate Assistants' responsibilities?
Responsibilities will vary by position. Graduate Assistantships are designed to enhance student learning by collaborating with faculty. It is an opportunity to assist in research, the design of pedagogical innovations, or related projects.

How many Graduate Assistantship positions are available?
The number of GA positions is contingent on faculty demand. Scroll down to the bottom of this page for current openings.

How can I apply for a Graduate Assistantship?
Students will apply directly to the faculty member. Faculty will review applications and make decisions based on the fit between their research and pedagogical interests and the applicant's qualifications.

When is the deadline to apply?
For the Spring 2024 semester, the deadline has been extended to Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:59 PM PT.
**Please note, Dr. Choi-Fitzpatrick's GA application deadline is Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 11:59 PM PT.

When will I get notified whether I got the Graduate Assistantship?
Students will be notified no later than two weeks after the deadline.

Can I have more than one Graduate Assistantship?
Kroc students are only allowed one graduate assistantship per semester unless special permission has been granted by Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, Frances Laviscount.

However, students are allowed to hold a Kroc School Graduate Assistantship and be a Kroc Ambassador.

May I renew my assistantship contract?
Yes, contracts are renewable pending faculty invitation.

Note to International Students: 
International students who do not have a Social Security Number (SSN) will not be permitted to start their graduate assistantships until they have one in place. Students can talk to the International Center for guidance on how to secure their SSN.

Description/ Duties and Responsibilities:
What’s the relationship between Art and Innovation?
What role to artists have in shaping social change?

This Graduate Assistantship (GA) is focused on (1) creating a syllabus and (2) developing a reading list for a graduate level class focused on the relationship between art and innovation (and perhaps the likelihood that creativity and collaboration are the bridge between these sectors).

This GAship will involve lots of independent work as you find relevant syllabi and reading, and brainstorm appropriate assignments, and so forth.

Qualifications:

    • Ability to work independently
    • Curiosity about art and social action
    • Capacity to think creatively about art and innovation
    • Willingness to think pragmatically about course development
    • Solid research and communication skills
    • Capacity using (or willingness to learn how to use) generative AI

Number of Hours:
40 hours, at your own pace / flexible schedule.

Compensation:
Students who are selected for a Kroc School GA position will receive $1,296.00 in funding, which will be applied toward tuition costs during the semester in which they have been selected. Assistantship awards do not cover student fees, books, or other expenses.
