Update: Spring 2020 Grading Policy and AY19-20 Portfolio Eligible Assignments

Dear Kroc School students,

This post is in follow up to Dean Márquez’s email yesterday, communicating the Spring 2020 Grading Policy.

We want to start off by thanking each of you who shared input on what the temporary grading policy should look like this term. We also want to thank PJSA for collecting this information and liaising with our team. Be assured that faculty carefully considered your input when preparing the policy.

Assignment Deadlines
In addition to the new grading policy, faculty have agreed to review and adjust deadlines for remaining assignments in their classes. The revised deadlines will apply to all students in their classes. Beyond this, students are encouraged to approach their professors on an individual basis for accommodation if they need additional time on their assignments. Faculty are committed to supporting students during this crisis, while maintaining fair procedures for students who find themselves in a wide variety of circumstances. Please ask for what you need from professors and from us in Academic Programs. Students are encouraged to copy Emily on correspondence if they feel the need for further support.

Spring 2020 Grading Policy
The Spring 2020 grading policy for the Kroc School permits students to elect the P/F grading modality for courses this semester. The full grading policy is posted online here which you should review carefully. We strongly encourage all of you to speak with your faculty advisors before making your elections. The deadline to make elections is May 1st at 5:00 PDT.

  • You can choose your grading modality on your own through the my.sandiego.edu portal.
  • Open the “My Academics” tab > “Register for Classes” > “Spring 2020” > “Schedule and Options”.
  • Click the “Grade Mode” column and then select “Pass/Fail Grading System” for each course to which you wish to apply this modality.
  • Click “Submit”.

Here are instructions with screen caps. This functionality should be available for all courses, including independent studies, by the end of today.

If you are on academic probation, please remember that you cannot take all of your classes P/F if you want to bring your GPA up to the required 3.0. Use the GPA calculator inside Degreeworks, and ask your advisor for guidance. Here are instructions to access the GPA Calculator.

Send us Questions and Feedback
If you have questions or feedback on any of the above please let PJSA or Academic Programs know. Should we receive questions and identify issues that require clarification, we will compile guidance in an F.A.Q. post at the end of the week.

For Continuing Students: Portfolio Eligible Assignments from AY19-20
Students continuing in AY20-21, please note that faculty have completed their list of portfolio eligible assignments from the AY19-20 academic year, available here.

As a reminder, you have until the end of the Fall 2020 semester to complete your revisions and get instructor sign-off on your assignments.

Continuing students have until this Thursday, April 9th to indicate whether they are going to complete a Professional Portfolio or complete the Capstone / Individual Professional Project. Please complete the survey online here.

Thank you to all of you for your hard work, resilience, and kindness toward one another. It is our privilege to support you at this time.

With best wishes,
Academic Programs team
