Emergency Management – A Leadership Career Path for Women: Challenges and Opportunities

February 12, 2021

From the perspective of being “newer” in the field, emergency management professionals Anna Feigum and Shayle Sabo will reflect upon their experiences joining and building careers as women in the field of emergency management. Moderated by friend and social worker, Chelsea Cornwell, they will identify challenges they have faced and supports that have enabled them to build confidence and navigate the subtle ways in which prejudice can present itself in this demanding and often male-dominated field. Anna and Shayle will discuss how their training within a theoretical framework of disaster resiliency has impacted their perspective and approach to addressing the multi-faceted challenges of crisis management.

Who should attend? Emergency management personnel; training officials and designers at public agencies; students in fields related to crisis response, humanitarian education, and peacebuilding; humanitarian organization staff members; and higher education faculty teaching courses related to humanitarian action, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, crisis response, emergency management, and community service.

EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament eLearning Course

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, distance learning has become significantly more important to lecturers and students. As you might be aware, the EU established a European network of independent non-proliferation think tanks in 2010, managed by the six members of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EUNPDC). One major project of the consortium is the development and maintenance of this online course. The course is completely free of charge, GDPR compliant and does require registration only for users who want one of several certificates. Our course comprises fifteen learning units that cover a whole range of issues; including arms control theory and WMD, conventional weapons, humanitarian arms control, missiles and emerging technologies. It has been used by 1000+ persons already, and features in syllabi by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and other international institutions.
