Quantifying Climate Change Risk in Humanitarian Response
Tuesday, March 7th 6:00 – 7:00 am Pacific Time
REGISTER
A new Climate Change Risk Index from INFORM quantifies the humanitarian risks associated with the climate emergency. Depending on different emission and population scenarios, the number of high risk countries may increase from 36 today to 52 by 2050, with the number of people living in very high risk countries roughly tripling from 580 million to 1.5 billion. Experts will discuss these findings and provide examples of how governments and humanitarian organizations can use this analysis and other research findings to prepare for and respond to climate-related shocks.

Our speakers are:
Tom De Groeve, Acting Head of the Disaster Risk Management Unit, Joint Research Centre of the European Commission
Mark Skeith, Senior Policy Analyst, U.S. Agency for International Development
Anna Lena Huhn, Regional Anticipatory Action and Disaster Risk Financing Advisor, United Nations World Food Programme Regional Bureau for Southern Africa and Indian Ocean States

Asar Ul Haq Muhammad, Shelter and Settlement Cluster Technical Coordinator, International Organization for Migration in South Sudan

Moderated by: Quynh Nhu Tran, Humanitarian Affairs Officer, Policy Branch, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
