Research Intern | Human Rights Initiative

The Human Rights Initiative (HRI) at CSIS was launched in June 2014 and is the only program of its kind in the Washington think tank community. The HRI brings together key actors in a cross-sectoral and multi-disciplinary approach, seeking to catalyze game-changing solutions to the most pressing global human rights challenges. Expected areas of research and analysis in 2022 include the impact of technology on human rights, effective regulation of supply chains to prevent goods made with forced labor from entering U.S. markets, and the role of human rights in maintaining healthy democratic systems in the United States and around the world, among issues.

The CSIS Human Rights Initiative (HRI) seeks a full-time, paid Research Intern to provide administrative and research support to the HRI’s Program Manager and Director.

The intern should be a motivated self-starter with demonstrated knowledge of human rights issues, as well as strong written research and oral communications skills. The Intern will be part of a small, dedicated team where they will have the opportunity to make serious and substantive contributions to the work of this growing program.

The start date for this internship is Monday, January 10, 2022. The internship will last until the end of April, with the option of extending to the end of June.


Internship: Global Program Development Intern

The Global Affairs and Partnerships (GAP) team at Search for Common Ground (Search) is seeking an intern for Spring 2022 to provide research and administrative support to the organization’s overall fundraising and knowledge management activities. The Global Program Development Intern will help advance Search’s peacebuilding mission by contributing to fundraising, organizational partnerships, project design, and proposal development for global programs.

Program development interns play a critical role in Search’s peacebuilding programs through fundraising from governments, multilateral organizations, and foundations, and the design of new programs in coordination with our regional teams.


ConnexUs Internship

Supervised by the Communications Officer, Search seeks two (2) ConnexUs Communications Interns on the Institutional Learning Team. We want our interns to have as rich of an experience as possible.

Toward this end, we ask every intern to develop a set of strategic learning objectives at the beginning of their internship with their manager, outlining their key learning and professional development needs. ILT staff will work with you to ensure assignments are relevant to these learning objectives, to any practicum or school-related objectives, and that you continue to grow throughout your internship.

If you are a student and would like to earn course credit from your internship, we are willing to work with you to develop a rigorous workload that is relevant to your field of study and professional interests.

This internship requires a minimum commitment of 3 days per week.

Fellowship at the London School of Economics for activists, policymakers, researchers and practitioners

We are an innovativefully-funded fellowship based at the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science in London, England. The programme is aimed at mid-career social-change leaders, from diverse countries and contexts, who are working to challenge inequality and who believe inequality can be defeated. We are now recruiting 18 Fellows for 2022-23, our sixth fellowship year, with an application deadline of 10 January 2022.

Intern, Karuna Center for Peacebuilding

The Karuna Center for Peacebuilding is seeking a part-time intern for Fall 2021/Spring 2022. The Karuna Center for Peacebuilding is a small nonprofit organization based in Amherst, MA, but with primarily remote staff, that implements peacebuilding programs focused on conflict transformation, inter-communal dialogue, and reconciliation. The core of Karuna Center’s work takes place in conflict-affected regions of the world, working with local partners.  Karuna is also expanding its outreach and efforts to do more work in the United States.


The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship

A full-time, six-to-nine month fellowship in Washington, DC. Outstanding individuals will be selected to work with nonprofit, public-interest organizations addressing peace and security issues. This opportunity provides recent college and graduate school alumni with the opportunity to gain a Washington perspective on key issues of peace and security.

Scoville Fellows will choose to work with one of the twenty-six organizations participating in the program. Fellows may undertake a variety of activities, including research, writing, and organizing that support the goals of their host organization.

Fellows receive a salary of $3,400 per month and basic health insurance compensation, plus travel expenses to Washington, DC. The program also provides $1,000 per fellow for professional development to attend relevant conferences or meetings that could cover travel, accommodations, and registration fees, or to take a language or policy course. Ashoka Latin America Intern

Ashoka is looking for undergraduate and graduate students to contribute to a database of social entrepreneurship and conduct analyses for advancing the field of social entrepreneurship and collective impact. The intern will map social entrepreneurs from Latin America and analyze their innovations. The intern will also contribute to knowledge products, such as online courses, innovation sector reports, and innovation diagnostics tools.


The Road to Equal Justice Program Intern

The Road to Equal Justice (RTEJ) initiative empowers U.S. communities with training and mentoring on media, technology, and data tools that can accelerate and amplify social justice movements. This program has worked with racial and social justice organizations in Baltimore, Denver, Boston, New Orleans, and Miami and has trained 263 people from 150 organizations on how to utilize technology and media in the fight for equal justice.


Internship: Asia Programs

Based in Washington, DC or Bishkek the Asia Program Intern will support Search’s Asia regional grants management team and country offices in Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Indonesia. Duties of this internship will include developing program learning and communications materials, project reporting, managing project databases, and supporting regional initiatives


Feeding San Diego

Under the direction of the Brand Manager, the Graphic Design Intern is a key member of the marketing and communications department at Feeding San Diego, helping to maintain brand consistency and creative production across our organization. This role is responsible for designing a variety of print and digital materials, including flyers, signage, digital ad creative, and more, to drive brand awareness, fundraising, and community engagement goals.

Search is seeking an intern to provide support to the HQ  Human Resources & Administration Department. SFCG is seeking interns on a rolling basis (with immediate openings) to learn about Human Resources and Administration in a practical environment as a supplement to their studies. Interns will be involved in supporting an active, internationally-focused, non-profit organization in many different facets of HR & Administration. Interns will be able to gain wide exposure to employee relations, data management and analysis, organizational policy strategy, benefits administration, audits, and other projects as they occur day to day in the department. This particular role, Policy & Internal Compliance Intern, will work primarily on the production of e-learning modules about Search’s Policies.
