Community Well-being

Dear Toreros,

Our community is entering a busy time of the academic year with both excitement and academic challenge, and we are reaching out to remind you of important Student Wellness and community resources. During this time, it is even more important to continue prioritizing both individual and community health and wellness.  Please remember as you engage in this important work that you are not alone. The USD Student Wellness team is planning various opportunities to support healthy individual decision making and strategies for supporting our collective community well-being. We encourage you to engage in the resources and opportunities listed below to support your well-being this fall.

You are USD

Dedicated to developing the whole person, ‘You are USD’ seeks to raise awareness and reduce stigma about mental health, enhance help-seeking behavior, provide students with important life skills, and create an environment that promotes the overall health and well-being of students as you strive to reach your personal and academic goals. You can find information and resources about life skills, mental health, and suicide prevention here: www.sandiego.edu/youareusd.

Mental Health Screenings

Completing these fast and anonymous screenings any time will help you determine if your recent thoughts or behaviors may be associated with a common, treatable mental health concern.

Register for a QPR Session

In this one hour evidenced based training, we will discuss the warning signs of suicide, strategies for talking with someone you are concerned may be in distress, and how to refer to help. We will have three QPR sessions for students in November and a meal will be provided at each thanks to the Associated Student Government!

Take the online Kognito Training

Kognito is a 30-40 minute online, interactive training program to learn the common signs of psychological distress, how best to approach a peer who may be in distress, and how to refer to the USD Counseling Center.

Reach Out for Help and Support Others in Doing the Same

USD Student Wellness counselors can be reached at any time (24/7) by calling 619-260-4655. Listed below are additional campus and community resources available to you:
