The Karuna Center for Peacebuilding is seeking a part-time intern for Fall 2021/Spring 2022.
The Karuna Center for Peacebuilding is a small nonprofit organization based in Amherst, MA, but with primarily remote staff, that implements peacebuilding programs focused on conflict transformation, inter-communal dialogue, and reconciliation. The core of Karuna Center’s work takes place in conflict-affected regions of the world, working with local partners. Karuna is also expanding its outreach and efforts to do more work in the United States.

Immigrant Defenders Law Center (“ImmDef”), a next-generation, 501(c)(3) social justice law firm that defends our immigrant communities against injustices in the immigration court system. We believe that the right to counsel in deportation proceedings is a necessary step towards ensuring due process for all. It is our long-term goal to ensure that no immigrant is forced to go to court alone.

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship
A full-time, six-to-nine month fellowship in Washington, DC. Outstanding individuals will be selected to work with nonprofit, public-interest organizations addressing peace and security issues. This opportunity provides recent college and graduate school alumni with the opportunity to gain a Washington perspective on key issues of peace and security.
Scoville Fellows will choose to work with one of the twenty-six organizations participating in the program. Fellows may undertake a variety of activities, including research, writing, and organizing that support the goals of their host organization.
Fellows receive a salary of $3,400 per month and basic health insurance compensation, plus travel expenses to Washington, DC. The program also provides $1,000 per fellow for professional development to attend relevant conferences or meetings that could cover travel, accommodations, and registration fees, or to take a language or policy course. Each year, we invest in the graduate education of 30 New Americans—immigrants and children of immigrants—who are poised to make significant contributions to US society, culture, or their academic field. Each Fellow receives up to $90,000 in financial support over two years, and they join a lifelong community of New American Fellows.

EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament eLearning Course
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, distance learning has become significantly more important to lecturers and students. As you might be aware, the EU established a European network of independent non-proliferation think tanks in 2010, managed by the six members of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EUNPDC). One major project of the consortium is the development and maintenance of this online course. The course is completely free of charge, GDPR compliant and does require registration only for users who want one of several certificates. Our course comprises fifteen learning units that cover a whole range of issues; including arms control theory and WMD, conventional weapons, humanitarian arms control, missiles and emerging technologies. It has been used by 1000+ persons already, and features in syllabi by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and other international institutions.
