SOLES Students Fight for Air

Not every weekend has to be spent with your nose in a book pondering the ideal research methods to address that dissertation question. Sometimes it’s important to rejuvenate, take a long walk with good friends, and give back to a great cause.

That’s exactly what about 20 SOLES students did in early November at the “Fight For Air Walk.” We were part of a team sponsored by USD’s Office of Sustainability and the Graduate Student Council that had over 150 participants walk 3.1 miles and raise over $3,000 for the American Lung Association.
The walk is designed to raise both awareness and money for a variety of lung diseases. The walk started at the downtown Marina and looped through Seaport Village out to the Midway Museum and back. It was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and bond outside the classroom while contributing to an important cause. It was also exciting to see such great representation from USD who had the largest team in attendance!

Although there was a threat of rain it turned out to be a typical San Diego morning (absolutely gorgeous). Of course the fun could not end just because the walk was over.  Afterwards, we headed to “Bub’s @ The Ballpark” for mimosas’ and tater tots (yes, an unlikely but excellent pairing).
We are already looking forward to next year and building a bigger team to help raise awareness for the cause. Hope to see you there.
