DETAILS
In collaboration with this year’s selected book, $2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America, the Center for Ethics, Economics and Public Policy presents “Debate: Is it time for America to embrace socialism?”
From the 2016 presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders, to the 2018 congressional campaign of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the idea of “democratic socialism” appears to have captured a large segment of the American imagination. But what exactly is democratic socialism? Would a socialist America be a more socially just America? Is socialism a viable form of economic organization for a complex and dynamic society? Join USD’s Center for Ethics, Economics and Public Policy for a debate featuring Vivek Chibber, professor of sociology at New York University, and Michael Munger, professor of political science at Duke University.
