Canvas is a learning management system (LMS) that provides a platform for educators and students to manage and participate in digital learning. It is a cloud-based software that offers features such as course creation and management, assignment submissions, performance tracking, and communication tools. Canvas is the leading LMS used in higher education.
- Improved user experience: Canvas has a modern and intuitive interface, making it easier for users to navigate and find the tools they need.
- Enhanced collaboration: Canvas offers more collaboration tools, including content sharing and access across courses, departments, schools, even institutions. In Phase 2 of the Canvas implementation, users will see a more robust integration to our Google Suite, allowing for better teamwork and collaboration among students and faculty.
- Mobile-first Design: Users can access Canvas from any device with a web browser, including smartphones and tablets.
- Better analytics and reporting: Canvas provides more detailed and actionable analytics, giving USD instructors and administrators tools to track student’s usage of learning materials and identify potential issues or gaps.
- Better integrations: Canvas integrates with a wide range of other educational technology tools allowing for a more seamless student and faculty workflows, including but not limited to Zoom, Panopto, VitalSource, Respondus Suite, VoiceThread, and others.
- Implications for Ally: Ally will be included as part of the Canvas suite of integrations. Any work that faculty have currently completed to improve their instructional content for accessibility will transfer over to Canvas and Ally scores will not be impacted.
