KROC-524-01 Social Innovation Practicum: Local Option (3 units)
Taught by Dr. Paula Cordeiro

This immersive, field-based course offers students a unique opportunity to integrate theory with practice through a client-focused team project, in-class learning, site visits, and community research. Students will collaborate with a San Diego-based nonprofit to apply social innovation strategies to address real-world challenges. Throughout the course, students will engage in hands-on consulting, gaining insights into nonprofit management and leadership.

The course emphasizes social innovation frameworks, equipping students with essential skills in project management, communication, and analysis. These skills are transferable across various career paths, providing students with a solid foundation for future professional endeavors. Students will also benefit from networking opportunities with nonprofit leaders, community partners, and peers, enhancing their educational experience and professional growth.

This course explores the intricate landscape of social media marketing, addressing its complexities, challenges, and opportunities. Students will learn market positioning, develop audience personas, and map the consumer decision-making journey. The curriculum covers content creation for social media, distinguishing between organic and paid strategies, and effective influencer marketing. Developing a social media marketing plan for a chosen organization provides students with practical experience for their careers.
