Announcement: Don’t Break That Cap!

A reminder about class caps: Sometimes we get requests to add students to already full FYW and E304 classes. We are nice people who care about students—but the English Department and Writing Program discourage faculty from adding students beyond the cap…The reason: Previous Writing Program and English Department Administrators argued for our smaller class size because it’s vital for how we teaching writing, with our focus on writing process, revision, and giving ample, individualized feedback to students.

Same with the E304 Pre-Requisite (CADW)

E304 is a common “go-to” class for students outside of English who are trying to satisfy their CADW requirement. You may receive requests to add students beyond the 20 student cap to your E304 class, and/or to add students who do not yet have enough credits to have the required class standing. We ask Writing Program Faculty to NOT add these students. Some professors make exceptions when they personally know the student (have taught them before) and know they could be successful. This is the only exception, and even then, please do so by exception and in rare cases.
