Career Opportunity Information

Earning a degree in physics from University of San Diego will prepare you for a variety of careers and graduate work after graduation. Many students engaged in research with Dr. Mossman are double majoring in physics with an additional STEM focus, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and mathematics. By choosing to complete your undergraduate research with Dr. Mossman, you will be introduced to standard science concepts, technologies, and techniques in the quantum information science and engineering (QISE) industry. Graduated lab members have gone on to graduate school, industry, and the military.

What is QISE?

The Quantum Science Information and Engineering (QISE) industry is a rapidly emerging field that focuses on harnessing the principles of quantum mechanics for information processing, communication, and technology. It encompasses a broad range of disciplines, including physics, computer science, electrical engineering, and materials science, among others.

The QISE industry aims to develop and utilize quantum systems, such as quantum computers, quantum communication networks, and quantum sensors, to revolutionize computing, cryptography, communication, and sensing capabilities. It leverages the unique properties of quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform computations and process information in ways that surpass the limitations of classical systems.
