“Compassion and kindness towards oneself are intrinsically woven into mindfulness,” is a quote by Jon Kabat-Zinn that sums up the session of tranquility held by the Jacobs Institute (JI) this past February. Integrating mindfulness experiences into our day is one of the best things we can do to improve our health. For the last STEAM Workshop of the Winter Series, JI facilitated an engaging experience entitled, “Creative Collaboration Stations: A Mindfulness Experience.” Participants learned, through the lens of maker space learning, how to apply and practice relaxation activities to their life.
The session began with a Mindfulness breathing activity in which participants closed their eyes and drifted into a very calm mental state. It was followed up by a live yoga session where stretching exercises were taught to the sound of spa music. Afterwards, participants engaged in creative collaboration stations including: yoga meditation through VR apps, DIY bath bombs, tea-making sessions, and massage ball activities. To end their relaxation journey, each person was given a “ThoughtFull” note of positive affirmation and a natural mineral bath soak. It was definitely an experience to remember.
