San Diego Remake Learning Days Virtual Paint Night

“Paint night was a hilarious mess of a blast!” said Maura Connolly, Community Initiatives Coordinator of the San Diego STEM Ecosystem. On February 18, 2021 representatives from educational institutions/organizations across the county including: National University, Fleet Science Center, San Diego State University and more attended a Virtual Paint Night Kick-off celebrating Remake Learning Days Across America. Sponsored by The Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education and the San Diego County Office of Education, this event’s purpose was to encourage regional hosts to submit their event during the festival held on April 22-May 23, 2021.

The Virtual Paint Night was led out by Artist Richard Gallego, who has over 25 years of experience as a painter and has been recognized by Plein Air Magazine as a featured artist on multiple occasions. He walked the attendees through an acrylic piece of a scene in Valyermo, CA. Sounds of laughter and cheerful countenances made the experience enjoyable for all! At the end of the session, raffle prizes were awarded to attendees and all gift cards supported local San Diego businesses.

Remake Learning is a national educational festival in 15 cities, celebrating and highlighting innovative learning experiences and opportunities for youth, families and educators to develop their sense of creativity, perseverance, and curiosity. A variety of organizations — such as schools, museums, libraries, after-school organizations, early child care centers, universities, and more — host virtual events for families to learn together. These, mostly free, events are designed to be hands-on, relevant and engaging educational experiences. Micro-awards are available for organizations, courtesy of the Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania.
