Nonprofits Needed for Student Social Media Projects

A USD professor in Communication Studies is looking for 3 nonprofit organizations (NPO) to assist students in the advanced research methods course. Students conduct content short-term analyses (March 15 – April 15) of postings from selected NPOs across 1-2 social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc).

Students will present their findings plus a set of recommendations to a representative from the NPOs. In class presentations are scheduled for April 29th and May 4th (9:15 to 10:35 a.m.).  Alternatively, the presentations can be made asynchronously and sent to the participating NPOs, but the professor hopes to have a representative present if possible to provide direct feedback to the students during class presentations. If desired by the NPO, students would be available for engaging in a conversation with the NPO representative in advance of the presentation to collect additional relevant information; however, additional conversations with the NPO beyond the final presentation are not required. The representative would also be able to let students know about any possible internships available if appropriate.

If you are interested or you would like additional information, please contact Dr. Carole Huston at huston@sandiego.edu at your earliest convenience. Students hope to begin background research by March 10th to set up their data collection.
