This article titled “Why Visit the Writing Center?” was shared with us by Professor Christa Tiernan. It’s a short, chatty read to help students understand how to best use the Writing Center. It both reassures and encourages students, but also primes them to think of a consulting session as a potential to have an “idea rich conversation” about their writing, rather than just viewing the session for editing or correcting.
About the USD Writing Center
USD’s Writing Center is an inclusive community serving undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines. In free, 45-minute to one-hour, one-on-one consultations, experienced consultants provide critical reflection and constructive feedback during the multiple stages of the writing process, from planning to composing to revision. In this process, the Writing Center’s goal is to help students develop strategies for improving their writing, for gaining confidence in their writing and for developing educational independence.
