Arias – The Communist Manifesto

Karl Marx was a well known individual, political theorist, economist, and social revolutionary that wrote the political pamphlet, the Communism manifesto expressing the goals of communism focused on gaining supporters for communism, persuading them to revolt to overthrow the bourgeoisie, and replacing capitalism with communism. He believed that there were 4 main classes in society, the bourgeoisie, the petty bourgeoisie, the proletariat, and the peasants, but most importantly he talks about the separation of social classes into the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The class with the most power, influence, and money was the bourgeoisie, they basically owned all means of production making all others work under them, mainly exploiting the proletariat. He expresses his dislike for the bourgeoisie because even though their goals were industrialization, urbanization, and the removal of feudalism, they had all the power in society and owned the means of production which resulted in the oppression of lower classes. Their goals were to increase their financial capital as much as possible so no one other than them would control the means of production.  However, he revealed that he would overthrow the bourgeoisie only after they accomplished their goals mentioned before.

Marx argues that the bourgeoisie can only continue to exist as long as they continue to improve production and help increase the economy. The bourgeoisie know this truth and that is why they exploit the lower classes, the workers, and laborers. They have no choice but to work along with the bourgeoise because they live to work that is how they stay alive and ultimately it results in a gain to the bourgeoisie, it is a toxic cycle that indirectly partly benefits the oppressed. They have created a class that could bring their downfall which is the proletariat. The bourgeoisie believes that the proletariat only lives to work for them and to increase their capital.

He points out that throughout history we see an oppressor and an oppressed in a constant opposition or struggle against each other.  “The history of all hitherto existing society is a history of class struggles.” (Chapter 1). He argues that this fight will continue until a revolution or reconstruction of society occurs which is the destruction of capitalism and shift to communism. The bourgeoise control all means of production in society, “creates a world after its own image.” (Chapter 1 p.16). This quote implies that the bourgeoisie have accumulated all of the power in society converting even barbaric and feudal nations into their own model, making everyone dependent on the bourgeoisie while also oppressing them. The bourgeoisie became immensely wealthy and influential mainly by oppressing the working class for their own benefit and capital. What makes this a class is basically that they are at the top of the food chain, they control everything and make prominent changes in society. “It has agglomerated population, centralized the means of production, and has concentrated property in a few hands.” (Manifesto 17).  Even though Marks dislikes the class he recognizes their attempts to better the society while remembering that their main goal is only the economic growth of their class.

“In order to preserve its social power unhurt, its political power must be broken.” (18th Brumaire). This incites that Marx believes that the bourgeoisie would rather give up their pollical power than their economic power because in the end money does control everything in a society, whoever has money controls everything even politics. Their political goals were to ultimately control everything, they knew that changes in economics would result in changes in social structures, so they wanted to maintain their economic power above everything. Because they held most of the capital in society, they used their money to win political power because ultimately what people wanted was money. Even though there was an established government, the bourgeoisie used their money to control or persuade the government making the government obedient to the bourgeoisie class granting their every need. As a result, making the political interest of the bourgeoisie and imperialist and capitalist society. Capitalism is an economic and political system where trade and the industry are controlled by private owners for profit rather than by the state. This is what the bourgeoisie controlled so if at any point the government would intervene with the countries trade and industry the bourgeoisie would revolt against the government because they hold the ultimate economic power within the state. Then again, the government control within trade would not occur in these times because the governments’ goal was to work in hand with the bourgeoisie because of their economic power.
