Kids and Cops

This short documentary was produced and directed by youth, in an effort to initiate a conversation and promote greater understanding between young people and the police of Baltimore City. The documentary elaborates on the roles young people and police officers believe they play in society. Produced in 2013, this film preceded the 2015 Baltimore protests.

Paige Rawl: Exploring The Positive Story

Duration: 27 minutes, 57 seconds

Twenty-year-old Paige Rawl was diagnosed with HIV at the age of three, contracting it at birth. Due to the lack of HIV education and awareness, Rawl endured years of bullying and was surrounded by peers who misnamed and misunderstood her disease. Although discouraged at first by the severe bullying she faced, Rawl took it upon herself to educate society on HIV. She now attends several conferences, was featured in the documentary It’s Not Over, and has written a book about her own story of living with HIV. Rawl exemplifies the power youth can have when they set out to change their societies for the common good.

Malala’s Speech At The Oslo Education Summit 2015

Duration: 11 minutes, 36 seconds

“Books are a better investment in our future than bullets. Books, not bullets, will pave the path towards peace and prosperity,” said Malala Yousafzai. During the 2015 Oslo Education Summit, Yousafzai addressed world leaders and urged them to take action on issues such as educational gaps, poverty, trafficking, child labor and child marriage. Yousafzai emphasized the need to fund education rather than military affairs. To read more about Yousafzai‘s current initiatives, please refer to the “Gender Equality” section of this chapter.
