I am\u00a0a\u00a0first-year in the Master\u2019s in Higher education (MAHE) and a first-year in\u00a0Student Affairs\/SOLES Collaborative (SASC) cohort.\u00a0 SASC is a partnership between the Department of Leadership Studies and USD\u2019s Division of Student Affairs for students who applied for a graduate assistantship (GA).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">I am currently at t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1603 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.sandiego.edu\/solesadmissions\/files\/2021\/12\/IMG_9319-1-300x297.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.sandiego.edu\/solesadmissions\/files\/2021\/12\/IMG_9319-1-300x297.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.sandiego.edu\/solesadmissions\/files\/2021\/12\/IMG_9319-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.sandiego.edu\/solesadmissions\/files\/2021\/12\/IMG_9319-1-600x594.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sites.sandiego.edu\/solesadmissions\/files\/2021\/12\/IMG_9319-1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>he Community, Leadership, and Development department at USD under the leadership of Ariela Canizal and so far, this is my favorite part of graduate school!\u00a0 I can see the connections between the student development theories I am learning in class and real practice by supporting students, creating community, and implementing programs. As suggested in the opening quote, a theory is an abstract practice while practice is theory and when you are well-versed in both, one learns what theory can provide value to the practitioner. As a rising profession, both are important to understand and validate students, especially underserved, non-traditional, and diverse students. I also get to experience the administrative side of student affairs, such as supervising our student leaders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">I love the community of students and the team I get to work with. I am so thankful for this opportunity to share my experience as a GA at USD. I am open to any\u00a0questions new students or potential applicants have!
