EDUC 500 Research Design and Methodology (3 units)
  • Critically assess the relevance and political implications of traditional and practitioner driven research models
  • Explore the ethical considerations of action and transformational research designs
EDSP 550 DHH: Multipe Perspectives 3 units (on site)
  • Students will develop an awareness of the culturally diverse population represented in today’s population of children and youth who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Students will develop an awareness of the multiple needs and perspectives of children with hearing loss and additional challenges, including those of English language learners and those with ASD
  • Students will successfully interact with deaf adults who use a variety of communication methods regarding their transition to the workplace or higher education.
EDSP 551 DHH: Auditory-Verbal Foundations (2 units)
  • Demonstrate the ability to explain a child’s residual auditory
  • Capabilities, however limited, to a parent. 
EDSP 552 DHH: Early Intervention Theory (3 Units) Onsite
  • Students will develop an understanding of the major theories in infant and child development, specifically as they relate to cultural differences and values in diverse populations of families whose child is deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Students will engage in making critical decisions about content, structure, assessment in early intervention programs with specific awareness of racial, cultural, lingual, socioeconomic and gender issues related to families whose child is deaf or hard of hearing.
EDSP 553 DHH: Provoding Support to Families (2 units) Onsite
  • To demonstrate their knowledge of the impact that culture and other diversities have on the families and the education of children who are deaf and hard of hearing through their respectful reflections and interactions with families and children from diverse backgrounds.
  • To demonstrate knowledge of and to adhere to the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in the field of education.
EDSP 554 DHH: Audiology-Diagnostics (2 Units) DL
  • Students will demonstrate familiarity with methods of audiological assessments and evaluations of young children in diverse populations by providing written evaluations of case studies, and by listing, describing and/or recognizing test procedures and decision-making processes.  Discussion will include professional Codes of Ethics.
  • Students will demonstrate basic knowledge of pathologies that cause hearing loss in certain and diverse populations by listing, describing and/or recognizing the signs and symptoms of these pathologies.
EDSP 555 DHH: Audiology-Amplification (2 Units) DL
  • Students will demonstrate familiarity with methods of hearing aid measurement/aided behavioral evaluations of young children in diverse populations by writing summaries of audiological observations, and by listing, describing and/or recognizing test procedures and decision-making processes; 
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of techniques for management of classroom amplification with diverse populations by listing, describing and/or recognizing the procedures used, their relationship to hearing loss and amplification, and the decision-making processes involved.
EDSP 556 DHH: Language in Early Childhood (3 Units) Onsite
  • Students will integrate knowledge about the typical and atypical stages/processes of language development from birth through five in diverse populations, with particular attention to families from non-English speaking homes.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the major theories of language development and the implications of these theories for teaching deaf and hard of hearing children from diverse backgrounds in coursework.
EDSP 558 DHH: Early Childhood Curricula (3 units) Onsite
 
 
  • Students will demonstrate their knowledge of appropriate language development activities in diverse cultural settings in sessions with preschool-age deaf and hard of hearing children and their parents. 
  • Students will demonstrate their knowledge about conferencing with parents of diverse cultural backgrounds using available educational, sociological, audiological and psychological information.
EDSP 560 DHH: Elementary Curricula (3 Units) DL Program
  • Backgrounds within all assessment, planning and teaching.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of the social-emotional needs of learners, including English Language Learners, planning strategies and working in collaborative interactions with others to support learners as they become successful members of their school community. Students will plan and implement ethical, and culturally-sensitive teaching strategies in collaboration and ongoing communication with other members of the school community.
