Black Voices in Kidlit

Resources:

  • The Brown Bookshelf  – promotes Black voices writing for young readers. Every year in February, they host 28 Days Later, a month-long showcase of Picture Books, Middle Grade, and Young Adult novels written and illustrated by Black creators.
  • We Need Diverse Books – Resources for the promotion diverse children’s books — that includes (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, Native, people of color, gender diversity, people with differing abilities, as well as ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities.
  • Sankofa Read Aloud – YouTube channel that features a vast collection of read-alouds of picture books by Black kidlit creators, and more.
  • BIPOC Reads by Brandi Grant – Panelist Brandi Grant has put together a comprehensive digital newsletter called BIPOC Reads featuring resources, videos, and recommended reads.
