2022 “Black Joy Be Like” Virtual Gallery

Black history month is a celebration of growth, resistance, persistence, love, and joy. To honor Black History Month, the PhD Students curated a beautiful event. Jasmine Williams started us off with the Black Joy Montage. Dennis Dumpson guided us through the event with Jack Drummond’s “Feeling Good” (art and creativity in the academic process) and Seraiah Nicole’s song from her new album, “The Truth.” Jasmine introduced Peter J. Harris’ “Black Joy Through Photography” and our own Marne Foster’s digital story where she asked us to “look for the warriors.” We were honored to hear from author, Greg Corbin (Breathing Ashes) describe the power of joy in resilience. Thank you Lindsay Roberts rendition of “Impossible” -what a gorgeous voice. We listened to the powerful words in “The Right Poem.” Gratitude goes out to Brenda Burgo (thank you for leading our reflection), Zulema Reynoso (flyer), Mario Echeverria (mentor), Gerardo Lorenzo-Saucedo (organizer), Adan Escobedo (website), and Samantha Mrstik (facilitator).
