ONE WEEK DOWN…

…and about 119 more to go!  But it flies by, really it does.  After only one semester, you are one/sixth done! After two semesters, 1/3rd done…and after three, you will be 1/2 done!  Gee, time really does go by.

Of course, you probably won’t think so.  You 1Ls are immersed in torts, contracts, criminal law…and those tricky lawyering skills assignments. Lots of work!

But you think YOU have it bad? Pity the poor 2Ls and 3Ls.  Law review. Cite checking. Tax. Evidence. Paper courses. Finding a job. Dealing with life AFTER law school. Pretty heady stuff if you ask me.

Now we in the library feel your pain. The psychic energy of stress and confusion swirl around us daily. It is our job to diffuse this chinook of pain, exorcise all doubt and fear, and have you full of confidence and self-respect when you leave.  That’s our job, that’s our goal.  Take full advantage of this psychic healing at the reference desk Monday thru Thursday 8 am – 9 pm, Friday 8 – 6 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon – 4 pm.  Peace.

Fall Semester Begins!

Welcome back to all returning students and welcome to our new 1Ls!

New New New New!  We have a new system for printing in the computer lab: Campus Cash! Just like you put money on your ID to buy food and other oncampus treats, you can also use it to print from the lab computers.  If you are not familiar with the procedure, check the instructions posted in the lab. We no longer use CDT cards for printing, although you can still use them for photocopying.

New New New New!! Two new reference librarians are now on board: Brent Bernau and Melissa Fung. Brent will specialize in government documents and Melissa in foreign and international materials.  Stop by the reference desk and say hello! They will both be giving library tours, in-class lectures, and staffing the Roving Reference desk along with Judith Lihosit and me.  We are very excited to have them on our team.

New New New New!!! Renovated wall coverings and restrooms await you in the LRC. The smells and noise have gone.  Life is good.

LRC Renovations Winding Up

As I write this, the bathrooms are still not re-opened and there is scaffolding in the atrium up to the skylight, but we have word that all this will be done within a day or two.  This has been a major re-do and we hope the results will be pleasing for everyone.  Our many thanks for your patience and good humor throughout the summer months.

Putting People at the Center

Cool article about the new wave of college libraries, where they serve as the "third space" — a combination of learning and living, studying and socializing.  While old time libraries were all about the books, new libraries are all about the people. Space for resources is still important, but modern library services put people at the center of our universe and go from there.

Although we do not yet have a coffee bar, the LRC has had some cosmetic and design upgrades over the summer.  Let’s hope you all think it contributes to our goal of being your "third space" here on campus.  If we can make it better, let us know.

Returning students, welcome back!  New students, we can’t wait to meet you!
