My name is Nathalie Nava and I am from Sonoma County where I live with my mom, dad, sister, and brother. I have always made my education the most important factor in my life as I\u2019ve wanted to be a surgeon since I was little. Due to my personal home circumstances, I have become incredibly independent, hardworking, and motivated. While balancing many responsibilities throughout my life, I continued to pursue my passions for science and the healthcare field by joining summer programs which gave me the chance to explore different careers in the medical field. Through lecture, laboratory, and fieldwork experiences I gained insight on health care specialties and an understanding of healthcare systems, processes, culture, ethics, and integrated professions. My mentor throughout high school, a cardiothoracic surgeon, would have me in and out of six to eight hour surgeries with her at least once a week where I explored my passion for surgery. In the free time I did have I enjoyed hanging out with my friends, reading, and going to the beach. When I began babysitting and volunteering for my local preschool I gained a love for children and decided I not only wanted to have kids and be very present in their lives, which would be difficult as a surgeon, but I wanted to work with children as well. I now want to be a neonatal nurse and I am going down the Pre-Nursing pathway here at USD. I am very homesick and miss the great group of friends I had and my family so the transition to college has been very difficult for me so far but I am excited for San Diego to start to feel like home. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
