The book, Frankenstein\u00a0<\/em>by Mary Shelley, depicts a science experiment going horribly wrong.\u00a0 Shelley is able to create a horror story and connect it to technology and its discontents. It demonstrates what could happen if we do not be careful with what we are creating when it comes to technology. Victor Frankenstein had a desire for power when creating the creature, \u201cA new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to me\u201d (Shelley 36). Victor had this desire for power and continued to create the creature without considering what could happen if the experiment went wrong. This relates to technology in society today. Going back to Bill Joy\u2019s article, he says scientists, \u201chave been driven by the overarching desire to know\u2026 not stopping to notice that the progress to newer and more powerful technology can take on a life of its own.\u201d This literally connects to Frankenstein<\/em>and how Victor had a desire to know if he could create life from death and did not think about what would happen if his creation \u201ctook on a life of its own.\u201d Also, when the creature tells Victor to make him a female creature, he realized they could reproduce and create a new \u201cspecies.\u201d This resembles the \u201cgrey goo\u201d concept where nanotechnology could reproduce and overtake the world and spread the \u201cgrey goo.\u201d\u00a0 Frankenstein <\/em>uses a horror story to warn society that rapid advancements in technology may not be beneficial for society and we must consider the negative effects when creating new technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
