Frankenstein is consumed with the idea of power and glory. His goal was to be the leader of a new creature race that would be faster, stronger, and smarter than all humans. However, his creation took a turn for the worse as it turned against Frankenstein by murdering his friends and family. This symbolizes how technology today is created in hopes of bettering and improving human lives but in reality isn’t always the best choice. Creators should be more cautious of incorporating new technology and ideas into our daily lives since the outcomes are really unknown. This connects to Bill Joy’s article about the dangers of nanotech and robots. As we continually advance and make new discoveries, it’s important to remember the consequences that come with new inventions. Frankenstein was unable to accept what he created and abandoned his creature allowing it to wreak havoc on humanity. Those who are in the technological industry should be aware that not all new discoveries are better for humanity.

The fiend was able to develop intellectually all on it’s own and took it’s own future into it’s own hands. This exemplifies that technology today may reach a point where it is no longer reliant on human beings to be updated or controlled. Victor allowed his arrogance and passion take over his reason in the beginning of the novel. His inability to accept the consequences of his actions led to the death of all his loved ones. Fortunately, he was able to come to his senses and chose to forgo the creation of the companionship of the creature stopping the replication process in hopes of keeping the creature contained.

In Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein breaks the laws of nature and creates a superior being through his love of science.
