The book Frankenstein was intriguing in the way that it was not just a mindless “scary story” but a very deep novel filled with parallels to the dark world of technology and its discontents. I found it interesting that it was not only Victor Frankenstein’s fascination with chemistry that lead to the creation of “the creature”, but his hunger for power as well. Frankenstein dreamed of creating a species that he could be the master of, and this ended up blowing up in his face because his actions resulted in the birth of something evil and monstrous. This relates to real world problems in technology because in society today we have made advancements in technology that were intended to be used as tools in our daily lives to benefit us. These intended “tools” such as smart phones and artificial intelligence systems (like Siri and Alexa) have made us highly dependent on them. We all walk around entranced by our cellphones and people can no longer think for themselves because we have all of the answers to everything at our fingertips. As technology continues to prosper and the creation of artificial intelligence becomes more advanced it is very possible that the human race will fall second to these robots. If we create highly inteligent forms of technology they might do things better and more efficiently than we ever could, thus destroying the role humans on this planet.
