\nThe focus for the\u00a0Institute for Civil Civic Engagement’s\u00a0<\/a>2019 Conference is Restoring Civic Literacy: Revitalizing Civic Education across our Community. The conference will convene educational and civic leaders from across our region and state to discuss current best practices and strategies to improve Civic education and literacy for students and across our broader community. Democracies can die in an age of post-truth. This conference is a broad call to action to restore truth, facts and knowledge to our public discourse.<\/p>\n

Keynote Speaker Tani Cantil-Sakauye, Chief Justice of California, has been a leading voice and advocate for robust civic education across the State of California. Knowing that\u00a0the “strength of our democratic institutions relies on the public\u2019s understanding of those institutions,” Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye has been a driving force in the\u00a0Power of Democracy<\/a>\u00a0campaign, an initiative supported by statewide partners to help revitalize democracy and promote access to justice in California.<\/p>\n
