{"id":1420,"date":"2020-08-13T14:04:33","date_gmt":"2020-08-13T21:04:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.sandiego.edu\/dlt\/?p=1420"},"modified":"2020-08-13T14:04:33","modified_gmt":"2020-08-13T21:04:33","slug":"job-remote-assistant-editor-for-disability-studies-quarterly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.sandiego.edu\/dlt\/2020\/08\/13\/job-remote-assistant-editor-for-disability-studies-quarterly\/","title":{"rendered":"Job: (Remote) Assistant Editor for Disability Studies Quarterly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Open Call: Application for Assistant Editor for Disability Studies Quarterly<\/p>\n<p><\/strong>Disability Studies Quarterly (DSQ) is (happily, so happily) seeking an Assistant Editor;\u00a0 The Society for Disability Studies (SDS) &#8211;the sponsoring organization for DSQ&#8211;is funding this new position.\u00a0 This position is best suited for a graduate student who is interested in writing and editorial work in disability studies or a related field.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">DSQ Assistant Editor Responsibilities: The DSQ Co-Editors will collaboratively negotiate duties and expectations of the Assistant Editor position to meet the needs of the journal and to match the skills of the Assistant Editor. The Co-Editors (hereafter, Editors) will also provide training opportunities to develop and strengthen the Assistant Editor\u2019s skillsets.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Assistant Editor responsibilities will comprise no more than 250 work hours over a one year (52-week) period; a 5-hour week commitment to DSQ work might be considered the average work week for this position. DSQ Assistant Editor responsibilities could include the following, depending upon journal need and the Assistant Editor\u2019s skill sets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">recommending reviewers for new submissions<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">responding to emails from authors and reviewers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">creating agendas for editorial meetings<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">copyediting<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">posting to social media<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">updating the DSQ editorial board members annually<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">updating the DSQ user database<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">assisting in communication with the SDS Board and the Board\u2019s DSQ Liaison and serving as an ex-officio member of the SDS Publications Committee<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Qualifications: This position is best suited to a graduate student who is interested in writing and editorial work in disability studies or a related field. Applicants for the position of DSQ Assistant Editor could live anywhere and work remotely, but should be comfortable with multimodal remote communication platform functions; as work may be done remotely there are no requirements for in-person staffing, just some temporal flexibility for synchronous meetings as needed. Ideally, applicants should have an academic and\/or community background in disability studies and a strong commitment to the perspectives of disabled people. We especially encourage disabled, BIPOC, queer, immigrants, non-binary and multiply marginalized individuals to apply.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Funding: Society for Disability Studies (SDS)\u00a0 will provide a stipend of $5,000 for the Assistant Editor position, for a maximum of 250 hours of work.
