However, it does not necessarily imply there are immediate openings. If you meet the required minimum qualifications, your application will be included in the adjunct pool for possible assignments in the fall, spring, and\/or summer semesters of the academic year. Hiring departments utilize the adjunct pool when there is a need and will contact you directly should you possess the qualifications they are seeking. Applications are purged approximately one year from submittal, at which time you will receive an automated e-mail notice to re-apply if you wish to remain in the pool.<\/p>\n<p>Part-time\/temporary faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. As one of the largest community college districts in southern California, we offer a wide range of opportunities in transfer, general education, vocational and occupational programs. These part-time positions are as-needed and applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<b>Mental Health Counseling Center (MHCC)\u00a0<\/b>at\u00a0<b>San Diego City College (SDCC)<\/b>\u00a0has been awarded a two-year grant to work collaboratively with the Veterans Resource Center to enhance mental health support for student veterans. The\u00a0<b>Veterans Mental Health Counselor<\/b>\u00a0position is a dual role, with emphasis on psycho-education, outreach, early intervention\/prevention and community linkage along with a direct clinical role. The Veteran Mental Health Counselor will provide individual, couples, and family therapy, case management, resource referrals, workshops, group therapy, and outreach to student veterans. Additionally, the counselor will organize and support student veteran peer mentors, collaborating with the Mental Health Peer Educator Coordinator to guide and mentor these dedicated peers.<\/p>\n<p>This part-time position (15-20 hours per week for 40 weeks per year) will have a primary focus on outreach, training, and direct support for student veterans. Key responsibilities include facilitating workshops, developing resources, facilitating relationships with community partners and providing counseling services. The counselor will also lead training initiatives to educate the campus community about veterans\u2019 mental health needs and promote a supportive, veteran-friendly campus culture through collaboration with the Mental Health Peer Educator Program.<\/p>\n<p>The role is funded for the grant term, from January 2025 to December 2026, with a weekly commitment of 15-20 hours during the academic semesters (Spring, Fall, and an 8-week Summer session). The counselor must be available during regular school hours to engage effectively with students and campus services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Major Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Establish and Expand Partnerships:\u00a0<\/b>Improve and expand campus supports and resources through the development of partnerships with mental health providers, VA hospitals, county veterans service offices, and local\/regional\u00a0CSU\u00a0and UC campus Veterans Resource Centers.<br \/>\n<b>Outreach and Support for Student Veterans<\/b>: Provide direct mental health support through individual counseling, group therapy, case management, and resource development. Lead and collaborate on outreach efforts to increase engagement with student veterans.<br \/>\n<b>Veterans Ally Trainings<\/b>: Lead the development and delivery of training programs aimed at educating faculty, staff, and students on veterans\u2019 mental health, challenges, and best practices for supporting veterans on campus. This includes training campus stakeholders to become Veterans Allies and promoting a supportive environment for student veterans.<br \/>\n<b>Oversight and Support of Veteran Peers<\/b>: Collaborate with the Mental Health Peer Educator Coordinator to hire, train, and supervise student veterans selected to serve as Mental Health Peer Educators. These roles will empower student veterans to support one another in their transition to civilian life and receive training to become suicide prevention gatekeepers and stigma reduction ambassadors.<br \/>\n<b>Program Management and Reporting:<\/b>\u00a0Regularly report to the Grant or Program Coordinator on program progress and outcomes.<br \/>\n<b>Campus-Wide Collaboration<\/b>: Work closely with campus partners to ensure that veterans\u2019 mental health and wellness is a visible priority on campus. Engage in cross-departmental efforts to integrate veteran-specific support services and resources, and participate in training and meetings related to veterans\u2019 needs and mental health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong>Degrees<strong> must<\/strong> be from regionally accredited institutions. <strong>Master\u2019s<\/strong> in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.<\/p>\n<p>(NOTE: A bachelor\u2019s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Desired Qualifications: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Licensed or Licensed-eligible in the State of California\u00a0<\/b>(MSW,\u00a0MFT,\u00a0PCC, or Psychologist) with experience in counseling, case management, or similar roles, preferably with a focus on veterans\u2019 mental health<\/li>\n<li><b>Experience<\/b>\u00a0in outreach, training, and program development, especially working with diverse or underserved populations, preference may be given to experience working in veteran or veteran affiliated positions<\/li>\n<li><b>Clinical and\/or Personal Experience<\/b>\u00a0working with veterans, including experience addressing issues such as\u00a0PTSD,\u00a0TBI, substance abuse, and mood disorders<\/li>\n<li><b>Ability to Build Rapport<\/b>\u00a0with veteran students in both one-on-one and group settings, fostering a supportive and trusting environment<\/li>\n<li><b>Knowledge of Local Resources<\/b>\u00a0for veterans in San Diego, and the ability to connect students with relevant services<\/li>\n<li><b>Expertise in Clinical Assessment<\/b>, including the ability to assess suicidal ideation, lethality, and risk to self or others<\/li>\n<li><b>Crisis Intervention Skills<\/b>, with demonstrated ability to manage high-risk situations effectively<\/li>\n<li><b>Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills<\/b>, with the ability to engage and educate a wide range of campus stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students<\/li>\n<li><b>Culturally Competent Care<\/b>\u00a0for veterans and diverse populations, ensuring mental health services are accessible and appropriate for all<\/li>\n<li><b>Strong Organizational and Administrative Skills<\/b>, with the ability to meet grant deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously<\/li>\n<li><b>Experience with Program Oversight<\/b>, including managing peer-led initiatives and providing guidance to student veterans in the Mental Health Peer Educator Program<\/li>\n<li><b>Proficient with Technology<\/b>, including the use of clinical software and tools for case management, data collection, and report writing<\/li>\n<li><b>Experience with Data Collection and Reporting<\/b>, including compiling and submitting regular reports as required by funding sources<\/li>\n<li><b>Ability to Forge Partnerships<\/b>\u00a0with community partners and create linkages to care for veteran students<\/li>\n<li><b>Professional Liability Insurance<\/b>\u00a0required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are excited to share that the\u00a0Mental Health Counseling Center (MHCC)\u00a0at\u00a0San Diego City College (SDCC) are currently recruiting for a Veterans Mental Health Counselor (Part-Time).
