\u201cIf I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first 55 minutes determining the proper question to ask, for once I know the proper question; I could solve the problem in less than five minutes.\u201d \u00a0<\/em>\u2014A. Einstein<\/p>\n

Ask yourself these two questions:<\/p>\n

  1. Does question-asking apply to the teaching and learning of positive character strengths and ethical decision-making?<\/li>\n
  2. What resources could help you and your students appreciate the importance of developing question-asking skills?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The answer to the first question is \u201cyes\u201d and here is one reason.<\/p>\n

    The word CHARACTER has two Cs in it; one stands for CHOICE and the other for CONSEQUENCES.\u00a0Living a life of good character doesn’t happen by CHANCE, nor does it happen by CIRCUMSTANCES. \u00a0It happens by CHOICES. \u00a0There is another very important \u201cC\u201d that should be considered \u2013 CONSCIENCE.<\/p>\n

    If character is necessary to inform our \u201cchoices\u201d and \u201cconsequences,\u201d (conscience) then children and youth need to learn and practice the skills of question asking.<\/p>\n
