Research Mentor Training: Creating the Next Generation of Researchers

Thursday, March 6, 2014, from 12:15-2:15 p.m. in Serra Hall 204

Facilitated by:
David De Haan, Professor, Chemistry and Biochemistry, and 2012 USD Mentor Award Recipient
Monica Stufft, Assistant Professor, Theatre Arts and Performance Studies, and 2012 USD Mentor Award Recipient
Sonia Zarate, Director, Office of Undergraduate Research

Co-sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR)

This is the first in a three part mentoring series aimed at taking the trial and error out of interdisciplinary mentoring of undergraduates in research and creative activities. This session will open the discussion and focus on faculty needs and concerns regarding mentoring undergraduates in their respective disciplines.

Dr. Zarate will integrate the items identified during this first session into Part Two (and Part Three) discussions where evidence based mentoring practices will be discussed. Part Three will focus on mentoring a diverse student population and those practices that foster retention and promotion. All three workshops will be interactive, catered to the needs of research mentors at the small liberal college, and based on the Entering Mentoring training series. Details for the second and third sessions will be announced in upcoming CEE newsletters
