Thurs, April 25th 2013, from 12:15-2:15 p.m. in UC 128
Arguably no endeavor matters more to the future strength of our departments and the university than faculty recruitment. We decide how our faculty will grow and socialize new folks into the culture of the institution. In the process, they change those of us already here through new ideas, new experiences, and new directions – the vitality of our community of inquiry depends on it. Faculty recruitment is carefully considered, but at USD we have largely worked outside of a well-developed national conversation about how to build a diverse pool of candidates and consider how we define the best of the candidates. While federal compliance and national conversations are critically important, we must develop a strategy for coherent, purposeful, and strategic faculty recruitment efforts based on the logic of our scholarly community at USD – where “creating a diverse and inclusive community” is at the center of our Mission.
During this interactive presentation, we will introduce the newly-adopted Toolkit for Faculty Recruitment and Retention that is now to be used as part of the recruitment process for all faculty searches. Current search committee members, chairs and other interested faculty are encouraged to attend.
Lunch will be provided
