USD Competes in RecycleMania
RecycleMania has begun! RecycleMania is a competition and benchmark tool for college and university programs across the nation, which promotes recycling and waste reduction. Over the course of the 8-week program, campuses report the amount of recycling and trash collected. There are many categories for ranking including overall recycling, per capita, bottles and cans, and waste minimization. USD participates in the per capita category, which is scored by how many pounds of waste recycled based upon the amount of people at the university.
In 2012, USD recycled 30.77 pounds per person and finished the competition ranked 4th in California and 30th in the nation out of over 350 different colleges universities. Currently USD is ranked 3rd in California and we need your help to do even better in the upcoming weeks. Entering the second week of the competition, it is our hope that we can work together to increase these numbers over the next few weeks and not only motivate students and staff to recycling but to also gain attention for USD’s green efforts. USD has single-stream recycling which means that all recyclable materials can be placed in all blue bins around campus. Visit the RecycleMania website to check our weekly status and remember to recycle!
