USD has provided an outlet for proper e-waste recycling to the USD and local community by opening a student-run electronics waste collection center. This center offers free service and has collected over 700,000 pounds of e-waste since its opening in April 2011. This collection center, the first of its kind on a college campus, diverts e-waste from landfills and developing nations with the goal of raising money for student scholarships. USD also offers the collection of batteries, light bulbs, and ink cartridges, serving as a one-stop shop to educate the community about the harmful dangers of materials associated with those products to landfills. So if you have an old printer, tv, laptop, gaming unit, or other e-waste, bring it by the center and help keep these hazardous materials out of the landfills.
