Bike Rack Upgrade Completion
Last intersession, Phase I of the bike rack upgrade were installed in resident areas to address bike theft and security problems.
This July, Phase II replaced the remaining old bike racks around campus. With the addition of 108 bike parking spaces from this second phase, USD can now park 444 bikes on campus! The new bike racks allow bicyclists to lock their bikes with sturdy, metal U-locks that are more secure than cable locks that are easily cut. With the installation of these new bike racks, hopefully the students will be encouraged to ride their bikes to and from campus, and the USD community a whole encouraged to lower our campus carbon footprint.
Look for the new bike parking spots around main campus and residential areas or find them on the sustainability website under transportation. To keep your bike in good working condition, make sure to check out the new bike workstation and public bike pump outside Outdoor Adventures.
