Unity with Newtown

Rainbow for Newtown; photographed in Del Mar, October 2012

San Diego is far from Newtown, but our hearts are joined with theirs in grief for their tragic loss.

On behalf of the students, staff and faculty of the USD School of Business, I want to express our deep sorrow and compassion, as well as our hope for healing, for the Newtown community.

We will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Students are returning with stories and photos from the food truck …Read Full Article

Business, ethics and Libor

So, I was on the plane traveling home from Italy and reading the July 7th edition of The Economist. On page 9, two brief and troubling stories caught my eye.

First, the manipulation of LIBOR (London inter-bank offered rate) by Barclays bank, and apparently a host of other banks. Second, a $3 billion fine on GlaxoSmithKline for “over-aggressive marketing and selective use of clinical-trials data.”  The company “was accused of using cash payments to doctors disguised as consulting fees and ‘lavish …Read Full Article
