Signs of community in San Diego
Last week I had two opportunities to recognize the enduring value of community-building.

It’s hot in NYC, and about to get hotter. Next week, Mayor Bloomberg’s Big Gulp ban goes to a public hearing before the Department of Health. New Yorkers for Beverage Choices, a group opposing the ban on extra-large sized sugary drinks, has gathered over 60,000 names on a petition they plan to present at the hearing.

So, I was on the plane traveling home from Italy and reading the July 7th edition of The Economist. On page 9, two brief and troubling stories caught my eye.
First, the manipulation of LIBOR (London inter-bank offered rate) by Barclays bank, and apparently a host of other banks. David Pyke, Ph.D., has been dean of the School of Business Administration (SBA) at the University of San Diego since 2008.
Formerly, he was professor of Operations Management, and associate dean at the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.
He obtained his BA from Haverford College, MBA from Drexel University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
