In partnership with California Campus Compact, the San Diego Regional Service Learning network in its efforts to strengthen community-based initiatives in the region presents the Engaged Scholarship Learning Series. This series is designed to contribute to a robust dialogue in the San Diego region that advances service learning practice and praxis. The first workshop, Advancing a Critical Service Learning Practice: Linking Social Justice and Community Engagement, will explore service learning design concepts in connection in dialogue with our community and campus partners who are interested in developing equitable partnerships. Participants will: • Learn about the PARE model of service learning design • Understand social justice as a process and goal • Understand the concept of critical service learning • Analyze and discuss case studies • Discuss the elements of creating equitable community/campus partnerships Our speaker and program facilitator will be Dr. Tania Mitchell. Dr. Mitchell is an assistant professor of post-secondary teaching and learning at the University of Minnesota who has extensive experience and expertise in community engagement and service-learning. Her professional experience and teaching interests include social justice theory, civic discourse, public service, college student development and the pedagogy, philosophy and practice of service-learning in higher education.
