Title: Innovation in Experiential Education Award Luncheon: Engaging Privilege through Active Learning
Location: KIPJ A
Link out: Click here
Description: Co-sponsored with the Center for Community Service-Learning and the Experiential Education Committee
Many USD students often enter the college classroom with limited understanding of complex and abstract concepts such as privilege and institutional inequalities. In learning about these themes, some students express overt resistance, in part because U.S. society espouses meritocratic ideologies of individual achievement, to the exclusion of broader analysis of institutional inequities. This presentation will address effective strategies to engage students in classroom conversations. Join the IEE Committee for a luncheon honoring Michelle M. Camacho of USD’s Sociology Department for the Innovations in Experiential Education Award.
Lunch will be provided for this session. Please RSVP here by November 8th or by calling the CEE at (619) 260-7402 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Start Time: 12:15 p.m.
End Time: 13:30 p.m.
